Any activity that holds potential safety issues should be bound by a number of standards that, if upheld and adhered to, enable the activity to take place in as safe an environment as possible.

Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is just such an activity. What SUP Standards has built via years of industry experience is a knowledge base of what we consider to be the gold standard in SUP protocol and safety.

By offering this foundation it is hoped that the future for SUP will be one of ever-improving safety standards where those involved in the sport can paddle in the knowledge they are fully educated on the inland waterways and ocean environments around them, the equipment they are using, and how to be a proactive paddler rather than a reactive one.

The overarching goal of SUP Standards is as follows:

  • Prevent accidents
  • Reduce risk of injury
  • Raise awareness of participants, coaches/instructors
  • Provide a safe working environment
  • Provide a safe playing/training/competing environment
  • Raise standards for all involved
